Rapid Prototypes for
Complex Operational
Problems.
Founder-Led Innovation Studio • Rapid Prototyping • AI Automation • Complex Problem Solving
I'm Kris Côté, founder of OddLabs. I work directly with organizations to understand difficult operational and technology challenges, then build practical prototypes that help validate ideas before major investments are made.
Based in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Working with organizations across BC and Canada.

// BUILT_AROUND_THE_PROBLEM
Built Around the Problem,
Not the Technology.
OddLabs does not lead with a product or a platform. The first question is always: what is actually broken? From there, I may use AI, automation, custom software, sensors, dashboards, integrations, or process redesign — whichever combination reduces your risk and gets you to a working prototype fastest. No buzzwords. No forced fit. Just the right tool for the operational problem in front of me.
AI & Automation
When repetitive decisions or manual work can be automated.
Sensors & IoT
When you need real-time visibility into equipment, assets, or environments.
Dashboards
When decision-makers need a unified operational picture, not five separate screens.
Integrations
When your existing systems should work together but do not.
Process Redesign
When the workflow itself is the problem, not the technology.
Custom Software
When nothing off-the-shelf fits your operational reality.
// CONCEPT_DEMONSTRATIONS
Solution concepts
in action.
All solutions above are concept demonstrations. Actual scope, results, cost, and timing vary per engagement.
// HOW_I_WORK
Four steps from
problem to proven.
Every OddLabs engagement follows the same risk-reducing path: understand the problem, build a prototype that proves the approach, validate it under real conditions, and scale only when it works.
01
Discovery
Understand the operational problem. I sit down with your team to map constraints, stakeholders, existing systems, and success criteria — before writing a single line of code.
- →Problem decomposition
- →Stakeholder mapping
- →Constraint analysis
02
Prototype
Build a working, testable solution. Not a mockup or a slide deck — a real system with real data flows that demonstrates the core value of the approach.
- →Working prototype
- →Core functionality
- →Real data flows
03
Pilot
Validate it with real users and real constraints. I deploy the prototype in a controlled environment — one site, one team, one workflow — and measure what works, what does not, and what needs to change.
- →Live deployment
- →Performance metrics
- →User feedback
04
Production
Scale only after the approach is proven. I harden the pilot into a production system with real integrations, proper security, monitoring, and documentation — built to run in your environment.
- →System integration
- →Deployment support
- →Team handoff

“
Kris took our most complex operational problem — one we'd been circling for months — and turned it into a working prototype in three weeks. The clarity alone was worth it.

We came in with a vague idea and walked out with a blueprint, a prototype, and a clear path to production. That doesn't happen with traditional consultants.

The Discovery Blueprint changed how we thought about the problem entirely. Kris reframed everything — and then built it.

// WORK_DIRECTLY_WITH_THE_FOUNDER
Work Directly With the Founder.
When you engage OddLabs, you work directly with Kris Côté — from the first discovery conversation through prototype delivery. There is no account manager, no hand-off to a junior team, no layers of structure between you and the person building your solution. You get the founder's full attention and experience at every stage.
Kris's practical experience spans technology, operations, emergency services, security, AI, systems integration, and rapid prototyping. That range means the first conversation is grounded in real operational reality — not generic consulting frameworks.
Meet Kris →Technology
Built AI systems, automation pipelines, and operational decision-support tools.
Operations
Worked inside operational environments where clarity and speed directly reduce risk.
Emergency Services
Practical exposure to incident response, situational awareness, and decision pressure.
Security
Built systems for guard tracking, alarm management, and security operations centres.
AI
Applied AI for track correlation, request classification, and predictive maintenance.
Systems Integration
Connected disparate sensors, APIs, and databases into unified operational pictures.
Rapid Prototyping
From concept to working prototype in weeks — the core of what OddLabs does.
// FOUNDED_LED_BY_DESIGN
Founder-Led by Design.
Being founder-led is not a marketing line — it is the architecture of OddLabs. Kris Côté personally leads every engagement from the first discovery conversation through prototype delivery. There is no team of junior consultants between you and the person building your solution. The person who understands your problem is the person who builds the prototype.
This means the context gathered in discovery never gets lost in a hand-off. The operational reality you describe on day one is the same reality that shapes every line of code and every design decision. Accountability runs in a straight line — from your problem to the founder to the prototype.
Direct Accountability
The founder owns the outcome. No layers, no hand-offs, no diluted responsibility.
Context Preserved
Discovery insights flow directly into the build — no information lost between analysts and engineers.
Single Point of Contact
One conversation, one person, one decision-maker. From first call to final delivery.
// LIMITED_ACTIVE_ENGAGEMENTS
Limited Active Engagements.
OddLabs intentionally limits the number of concurrent clients. This is not scarcity marketing — it is how quality is preserved. When Kris leads every engagement personally, the number of projects that can receive the founder's full attention at any one time is naturally constrained.
This means when you engage OddLabs, you are not competing for bandwidth with a dozen other active projects. The focus, the context, and the build time are yours. When capacity is full, new engagements are queued for the next available slot rather than rushed into a crowded schedule.
Fewer concurrent clients means deeper engagement on each.
Quality over volume — every prototype gets the founder's full attention.
Why Capacity is Limited
Direct collaboration requires focused availability
Personal Involvement
Kris is hands-on in every engagement — from discovery to prototype delivery. This cannot scale to an unlimited roster of clients.
Context Depth
Complex operational problems require deep context. Holding that context for too many projects simultaneously dilutes the quality of each build.
Honest Availability
If the studio is at capacity, I will tell you. You will not be squeezed into an overstretched schedule or handed to someone you never met.
// FEATURED_CONCEPT_DEMONSTRATION
SitRep Tactical Decision Platform
Common Operating Picture
SitRep fuses radar, electro-optic camera, AIS, and radio frequency sensor data into a single tactical picture. Operators get real-time vessel tracking with AI-assisted correlation, confidence scoring, full provenance chains, and explainable threat recommendations — replacing the cognitive overload of monitoring five separate sensor displays with one unified operational view.
OddLabs Concept Demonstration70% reduction in mean time to threat identification
Unified operational picture across all sensor sources
Explainable AI recommendations for operator decision support — not black-box automation
Full provenance chain for post-incident analysis and accountability
Solution Snapshot
30-day prototype → 12-week production build
Operational Problem
Maritime security teams monitor radar, cameras, AIS, and RF detectors in separate, siloed interfaces. Operators must manually correlate tracks across systems, leading to delayed threat identification, high cognitive load...
Prototype Approach
Multi-Source Sensor Fusion: Radar, EO/IR camera, AIS, and RF detection data unified into a single track database with automatic cross-referencing.
Typical First Pilot
A single operations centre with 3–4 sensor sources, one watch-keeping team, and a 30-day evaluation window to validate track fusion accuracy and operator workflow.
Budget Range
$15,000 – $50,000 (prototype phase)
// DISCOVERY_WORKSHOP
Start with a Discovery Workshop.
The Discovery Workshop is the primary way to begin an engagement with OddLabs. In one or two structured sessions, I work through your operational problem, constraints, and existing systems — and produce a practical Discovery Blueprint you can act on.
No account creation required. No obligation. Just a clear, honest assessment of what is possible and what it takes to get there.
